Test Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three design approaches

A
  1. systems approach - breaking down the process with many steps
  2. empirical problem solving - using trial and error, the use of prototypes and progress further
  3. Intuitive design- with experience people make good guesses on what design works best

Q

Video conferencing

A

Allows people to communicate from different places over video

Improves communication, manufacturers can acc see the product without being there

Q

What is data transfer

A

Drawing that can be transferred from one computer to all over the world

Designing and manufacturing can be done by collaboration of different countries

Q

Paper and card stock form

A

Weight//
Measured in gsm
Anything above 200 gsm isn’t paper it is card

Size//
A1 A2 A3…..

17
Q

What is die cutting

A

Specialist machines can fold or cut paper/card particularly used for nets

18
Q

What is offset lithography

A

Used in the printing industry
Transferred onto suffice by UV light

Surface is covered in oil to stick to the ink
Is covered in water to repel the ink

Only used for large print as it’s expensive

19
Q

Explain offset printing

A

Four knows colours CMYB

20
Q

Explain the process of paper

A
  1. Trees cut down and sent to paper mill by lorry
  2. Bark stripped off, used in playgrounds
  3. Smaller bits of wood are heated with chemicals and made into pulp
  4. Pulp is washed with bleach to make it white
  5. Squeezed by roller and cut to size
21
Q

Explain the processes of wood

A
  1. Wood comes from trees
  2. Raw material transferred to sawmill converted to thick planks
  3. Wood is seasoned and stacked outside
( can also be put in kiln to heat and season faster )
  4. Seasoned wood is cut to size
22
Q

What is timber stock form

A

Sheet
Rod
Plank
Strip
