Test One Flashcards
Why should be not rely on these tests
Because they do not mimic the human use of fabrics nor the final use of a fabric
What are e dimensions on the fabric samples
250mm X 60mm (50mm when frayed down)
Why is the strength test commonly used
To see if a finish or treatment n the fabrics affect the performance of the fabrics
Advantages of the strength test
Quick to obtain
Subjective
Known in the industry
Disadvantages of the strength test
No knitted fabrics
Only one direction
Doesn’t show human movement
The formula for strength
Kg to Newtons = X by 9.807
Newtons to kg = divide by 9.807
What is the tear test
This test tests how easily a fabric tears. A more realistic test. Tears one yarn at a time
Name three tear tests
Toy hue
Trouser
Elmendorf
Advantages of tear test
More realistic
Objective
Elmendorf is cheapest
Disadvantages of tear test
- sometimes yarns can slip instead of snap
- the sample may slip out if a silky fabric
What is the tear test measured in and what’s the formula?
From newtons to milli newtons
From newtons to milli X 1000
Milli to newtons devide by 1000
Burst test is for what
The burst test is for fabrics such as knitted and lace since they tend to unravel when standard testings occur. The hurt test allows to have all directions be pulled which makes this test very realistic. 10 samples
Why is this test more realistic to others
Due to the face that all directions are pulled and not just one
Advantages of burst test
More realistic
All fabrics can be used
Subjective
Disadvantages of burst test
Stretchy fabrics tend to sag or pill
Not a measurement of durability
