Thin and thick blood films
A
Thin film: blood cells are fixed, intracellular parasites are seen and can be speciated.
Thick film: RBCs are lysed. Can gauge parasetemia.

Tuberculin (Mantoux) skin test
A
intradermal injection of TB antigens. If previously exposed, T-cells with flock to the area and give a reaction.
- a previous BCG vaccines will give a reaction
- HIV-infected may have no reactions

interferon-gamma release assay
A
- mix blood with some TB antigen, they will produce interferon gamma, which can be measured. not confounded by BCG

A
the acid fast stain e.g the one used for a sputum stain for TB
