The Autonomic Division Of The Peripheral Nervous System. Flashcards
What are The functions of the autonomic nervous system?
It controls smooth muscle organs such as lungs, heart & digestive system. & glands that secret hormones.
What may affect the function of autonomic nervous system?
Thoughts.
Does the function of autonomic nervous system happens with conscious control of the body?
No, functions of autonomic NS happens without conscious control of the body.
What is the autonomic NS?
Is a network of nerves and ganglia.
What is the ganglia?
Bundles of linked nerve cell bodies that occur in many places.
Explain how the autonomic NV can operate?
Through a chain of ganglia along the spinal cord
Explain how the autonomic nervous system can control the body?
Through controlling muscles & hormones secretion
What happens when a person is exposed to danger or in critical situation?
The sympathetic nervous system is activated.
Sympathetic symptoms
1- dilates pupils
2- inhibits salivation
3- open bronchi
4- increases heart rate
5- inhibits digestion
6- stimulates liver to release glucose
7-release adrenaline and nor-adrenaline
8- relaxes bladder
9- constrict rectum
Parasympathetic symptoms
1-constricts pupils
2-increase/stimulates salivation
3-constricts bronchi
4-slowing down heart rate
5-stimulates digestion
6- stimulates gallbladder
7-inhibit adrenaline and
8-contracts bladder
9-relaxes rectum
What is the name of the state at which the body would be exposed to danger?
Fight or flight response.
Explain what are the changes of the body in cases of fight or flight response? (VIP 2023)
1) an immediate increase in breathing rate & pulse
2) increase in adrenaline level.
3) large amount of oxygen & glucose ave released to the muscles.
What would happen when the threat is over?
The parasympathetic autonomic nervous system takes over the body to relax & recover from the stress.
