What is Tourism?
Tourism is when a person is away from their everyday habitat and is travelling outside of their usual space for their own pleasure and to partake in activities that are linked to the area they are travelling to.
Who IS a tourist and who is NOT?
IS= A tourist is someone that travels to a place that is not theirs and stays there for more than a night.
NOT= Someone just visiting, for example an old man on a day trip to the Lake District. Also, someone staying for 2 years.
What attracts tourists?
Culture, Natural Beauty/Resources, Entertainment
Who is involved in the tourism industry?
Hotels, Taxi Drivers, Airports, Ice Cream sellers etc.
What is an example of Entertainment Tourism?
- Disneyland
- Universal Studios
- Las Vegas strip
What is an example of Cultural tourism?
- Visiting Japan to explore its cultural differences
- Visiting Burma which is known for the culture of Neck coils
What is an example of Natural Beauty/Resources in terms of tourism?
- Visiting the Lake District for its picturesque landscape and natural features.
- Visiting the Grand Canyon for its unique formations.
- Visiting the African Safari to see the natural wildlife.
What reasons might a tourist have for travelling?
1) For pleasure
2) For business
3) Another purpose
