The Elbow Flashcards
elbow flexion
movement that decreases the angle btwn the anterior surfaces of the arm and forearm
elbow extension
a return from flexion to anatomical position
recurvation is when the angle can become slightly larger than 180 degrees (hyperextension)
the forearm consists of
two bones: radius and ulna
these are long bones
Radius
long bone in forearm - proximal part is small while distal part is large
the inferior surface articulates with the wrist
ulna
long bone in the forearm
proximal part of the ulna is large, distal part is small
bones and articulating surfaces for flexion and extension of elbow
PG 141
two functions of the elbow joint
allows upper limb to fold on itself and to extend (flexion and extension)
participates in rotating the forearm around its longitudinal axis multiplying the possible positions of the hand (pronation and supination)
