What is the circulatory system made of?
The heart, blood vessels and blood
What is a double circulatory system?
Two circuits joined together
What happens in the first circulatory system?
Heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Blood picks up oxygen in the lungs
Oxygenated blood then returns to the heart
What happens in the second circulatory circuit?
Heart pumps oxygenated blood all around the other organs which silvers oxygen to the body cells
Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart to be pumped out to the lungs again
What are the walls of the heart made of?
Muscle tissue
How is blood pumped around the body?
Blood flows into the two atria from the vena cava and pulmonary vein
The atria pumps the blood into the ventricles
The ventricles pump the blood out of the heart
Blood from the right ventricle goes through the pulmonary artery to the lungs so blood from the left ventricle goes through the aorta to the rest of the body
The blood then flows to the organs through arteries and returns to veins
What are the valves in the heart do
Stop the blood flowing backwards
What is your resting heart rate controlled by?
I’m group of cells in the right atrium wall
What does a pacemaker do?
Tells the heart went to pump blood
If our pacemaker doesn’t work properly what does it cause
Irregular heartbeat
What is an artificial pacemaker used for
To keep the heart beating regularly
