- Jesuits- Ignatius Layola, missionaries, education.
- Inquisition- Catholic Church, persecute Protestants.
The counter reformation
It was the Catholic Church’s actions to stop the reformation.
The council of Trent
~1545-1563 ~ aim was wipe out abuses ~ left sale of indulgences ~ made index ~ Agreed upon the Catholic doctrine.

Paying money to get a job in the church (bribes)
Nepotism
Giving a family member an important position in the church.
Absenteeism
Church officials are absent from their jobs.
Pluralism
More than one position in the church.
Sale of indulgences
Paying your way into heaven.
