It relayed trade, led to exchange of goods, ideas, and desease in Eurasia

It was where most people sold goods on the steppes

Places to sleep and rest. Ideas, products, and religions were exchanged there

“Flying money” (IOU) which was the idea of banks and paper money

Luxury items

Animals, metals, carpets, jewelry, silk, and glass
What is the symbolistic meaning of Silk?
It was to show that you are wealthy, and rich. Emperor’s would wear it.
It helped prevent you from sweating in warmer climates
How could Chinese peasants make more money during the time of the Silk Road?
They could make silk and sell it for more money. Silk was of way higher value than selling their crops. This led to more social mobility
What types of innovations made travel easier for people who traded on the Silk Road?
Saddles, horse collars, and stirrups
What was the bubonic plague(Black Death)?
-Between 1346-1350, the plague killed almost 1/2 of europes population, along with China and Islamic region. Mongols helped spread this plague by unifying and Asia was affected.
-it was spread by rats, then by fleas, then to humans
-internal organs woul bleed out, also inside would turn to charcoal and turn black
