Explain 2 religious beliefs about marriage (5 marks)

A

One Christian belief about marriage is that is it looked on in a positive light by God. This is because in the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament it says “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favour from the Lord”. This teaching suggests that those who marry will be blessed by God.
Christians also believe that once married, husband and wife both have responsibilities towards one another. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians he says
“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church…Husbands, love your wives”. This suggests that both men and women have duties within marriage and that part of a women’s role is to show respect towards her husband.
