Somites
Sclerotome- Vertebrae and ribs
Dermatome- Skin
Myotome- Muscle
Axial Skeleton Muscle
Skull, Vertebral Column, Thoracic cage
Structure of Vertebrae
Body-Weight
Arch- Ligament attachment
Forumen- spinal cord
Lamine- allows connection to other vertebra and muscles
Pedicle- allows connections to other vertebra and muscles
Sternum
Manubrium, Body, Xiphoid Process
Landmarks of Sternum
Jugular Notch, Sternal Angle, Xiphisternal Joint
Ribs
True Rib: 1-7
False Ribs: 8-12
Floating Ribs 10-12
Structures of Rib
Head- connects with vertebral body by two facets
Tubercle- connects with transverse process of thoracic vertebra
Shaft- bulk of rib
Costal Groove- located inferior boarder, houses the intercostal nerves and vessels
Thoracic Inlet
Passage of trachea, esophagus, vessels, and nerves along with major blood supply to head, neck and upper libs
Thoracic Outlet
More spacious, passage of IVC, esophagus and aorta, diaphragm located, lots of nerves
Intercostal Space
Remnant of Somites
Segmentation
Muscle that move ribs
Nerve, arteries, and veins that support blood supply between ribs
each rib has there own set
Intercostal aarteries wrap around the front from back side using body wall
Vasculature of wall
Right Side:
Intercostal Veins Drain into azygos vein then to SVC
Left Side:
Accessory hemiazygous and Hemiazygos veins that drain ithen drain into the azygous vein
