Tissues Flashcards
What are the 4 types of tissue?
Epithelial
Connective
Nervous
Muscle
Where can you find epithelial tissue?
-outside surface of body
-lining of digestive, respiratory and urogenital systems
-Heart and blood vessels
Which type of tissue forms glands and covers body surfaces?
Epithelial
What are the 5 main functions of the epithelial tissue?
-Protects underlying structures
-Acts as a barrier
-Controls passage of substances e.g. in nephrons in the kidney
-Secretes substances such as in pancreas
-absorbs substances such as in the lining of the small intestine
Which tissue is classed as abundant? (found in every organ)
connective
What are the 7 main functions of connective tissue?
-separates organs into layers
-Connects tissues to one another e.g. tendons and ligaments
- Support and movement for bones
-Storage such as of fat
-Insulate using fat storage
-Aids transport of blood
-Protects cells of immune system
What are the 6 cells of connective tissue?
-Adipose (adipocytes). Fat cells
- Mast cells
-White blood cells (leukocytes)
-Macrophages
-Platelets
-Stem cells (Undifferentiated mesenchyme)
What can mast cells release?
3
heparin
histamine
proteolytic enzymes
(all in response to injury)
