What is the ascension?
The belief that Jesus’ body and soul went up to heaven 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection.
What is Pentecost?
When the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit and were able to speak in lots of different languages so they could spread the word of God.
What mission did Jesus give his apostles?
“Go and make disciples of all nations” - The apostles were given the task of spreading the word of God and converting people to Christianity.
What is the difference between a disciple and an apostle?
Disciple: A follower of Jesus, Apostle: One of Jesus’ chosen 12 disciples.

Churches are decorated in green to emphasise the New Life given to us by the Holy Spirit. Sunday of Pentecost: feast of the Holy Trinity. Children are baptised. Colours change to red to symbolise the fire of the Holy Spirit. Monday after Pentecost: Adoration of the Holy Spirit takes place.

Who was Simon Peter?
Simon Peter was a fisherman before Jesus called him to be a disciple. He became the leader of the apostles after Jesus’ ascension and the first Bishop of Rome/Pope. He was a missionary.
Who was Matthew?
Matthew was a tax collector before he became Jesus’ disciple. He could read and write. He was a missionary.
Why is Thomas known as Doubting Thomas?
Thomas did not believe that Jesus resurrected and asked to put his fingers through Jesus’ nail wounds so he could believe. Thomas became a missionary and was martyred.
What is apostolic succession?
The belief that Jesus’ authority was passed down through the Popes and Bishops.
Who is the Head of the Catholic Church?
The Pope. The current Pope is Leo XIV.
What is the Magisterium?
The teaching authority of the Church. It is made up of the Pope, Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops - they have Jesus’ authority/power to teach us.
What is Sacred Tradition?
Actions and teachings of Jesus passed on through the teachings of the Church.
What is Sacred Scripture?
Holy writings such as the Bible.
What is confirmation?
A sacrament where a Catholic confirms their faith, becomes an adult in the faith, and receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
What happens at confirmation?
The candidate will have prepared for their confirmation as it is a covenant that is made with God. Before the confirmation ceremony, the candidate would have chosen a sponsor and the name of a saint to guide them. At confirmation, the candidate will renew their baptismal promises, the Bishop will lay his hand over the candidate, and they will be anointed with Holy Oil to show that they have received the Holy Spirit.
What are the works of the flesh?
Impurity, idolatry, jealousy, fits of anger, divisions and envy.
