Vijayanagara Empire
Southern India’s second kingdom. It was created when two brothers converted back to Hinduism.
Rajput Kingdoms
A group of kingdoms that rose after the fall of the Gupta Dynasty. It was located in North India and had no centralized government system.
Delhi Sultanate
A kingdom that formed in modern-day Pakistan after Muslims conquered the area in the 8th century.
Proselytize
To convince locals to convert to a different religion.
Qutub Minor
A mosque built by the Delhi Sultanate on the ruins of a Hindu temple. It shows a way architecture during this time had both Islamic and Hindu components.
Bhakti Movement
A new version of Hinduism focusing on the past for spiritual guidance.
Srivijaya Empire
An empire in Sumatra that was in power around 670-1025. It was a sea-based kingdom and Hindu.
Majapahit Kingdom
An empire on Java that was sea-based. It had 98 tributary states and was Buddhist.
Sinhala Dynasties
A dynasty in Sri Lanka that began in the 3rd century when people migrated from North India. They were catholic and were known for their monasteries and nunneries.
Khmer Empire
A land-based kingdom in 802-1431 near the Mekong River. They had complex irrigation and drainage systems. Their rulers became Buddhist and created many temples.
Sukhothai Kingdom
A kingdom that conquered the Khmer Empire in 1431.

Destructive, large sea-based storms. (Hurricanes)
