Q

Properties of conductors

A
  • Conductors are materials that allow the free flow of electrons from one atom to another
  • They conduct electricity because of the free electrons present
  • They can pass electricity through them
  • Materials that are good conductors generally have high conductivity
  • Most metals are good conductors

Q

Properties of Insulators

A
  • Insulators won’t allow the free flow of electrons from one atom to another
  • They insulate electricity because of the tightly bound electrons present within atom
  • They cannot pass electricity through them
  • Materials that are good insulators generally have low conductivity
Example of insulators are glass, plastic and rubber

Q

Factors that affect the rate of conduction

A

it increases by:
- increasing the temperature gradient (temperature gradient)
- decreasing distance between particles (distance)
- increasing surface area (surface area)
