Components of blood:

A
  • RBC - main role is oxygen transportation - marked with antigens
  • WCC - immune function
  • Platelets - clotting and tissue repair
  • Plasma - suspends the cells and platelets, carries nutrients, electrolytes plasma proteins, hormones provide 55% blood volume. carries antibodies (opposite to antigens on RBCs)

A
  • Red blood cells:
  • packed cells
  • indication - anemia, acute blood loss due to trauma, surgery, post-partum. blood disorders, cancer
  • Plasma: product
  • frozen plasma - hypovolameia
  • cryoprecipitate - haemophilia A, warfarin reversal
  • albumin - hypovolaemia
  • immunoglobin - acquired passive immunity, immunodeficiencies, immunomodulation in chronic inflammation
