What is the treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis?
400-500mg Metronidazole BD for 5-7 days
or
2g stat Metronidazole (avoid single dose in pregnancy)
What is the treatment for Candida in women?
Antifungal pessary +/- cream for external areas
What is the treatment for Candida in men?
Saline bathing +/- azole cream
What is the treatment for Chlamydia?
Doxycycline 100mg bd for 7 days (not if preg or breast feeding)
or
Azithromycin 1g stat (not in preg)
What is the treatment for Gonorrhoea?
depends on local antibiotic resistance patterns
currently- ceftriaxone IM 500mg and azithromycin 1g with TOC
What is the treatment for Primary Herpes?
Aciclovir 400mg tds for 5-10days or Valaciclovir 500mg bd for 5-10days or Famciclovir 250mg tds for 5-10days
Symptomatic relief: saline bathing, topical anaesthetics and analgesia)
What is the treatment for Recurrent Herpes?
episodic or continuous aciclovir
What is the treatment for Non-Specific Urethritis?
Doxycycline 100mg bd for 7days
or
Azithromycin 1g stat
What is the treatment for Trichomoniasis?
Metronidazole 400-500mg bd for 5-7days
What is the treatment for out-patient treatment of mild PID?
Ceftriaxone 500mg stat + doxycycline 100mg bd for 14 days with metronidazole 400mg bd for 14 days
or
Ofloxacin 400mg bd for 14 days + metronidazole 400mgbd for 14 days
What is the treatment for Simple External Warts?
Podophyllotoxin cream/solution/or imiquimod- avoid in preg
What is the treatment for human papilloma virus (genital warts/lumps)?
Podophyllin paint/cream (for local tissue necrosis, non keratinised warts only-do not use if preg) Cryocauterisation Diathermy Surgical removal Laser therapy NB vaccine now available
What is the treatment for treponema pallium (syphilis)?
High dose penicillin or doxycycline if penicillin allergic
