Q

What are the formulas to trigonometry ratios?

A

There are 3 formulas, sin, cos and tan.

Sin0 = opposite / hypotenuse
Tan = Opposite / Adjacent
Cos 0 = Adjacent / hypotenuse

Theta = 0, Gamma = Y, Beta = B, Alpha = A.

Q

How do you find an unknown side length?

A
Step 1: Label the sides of the triangle.
Step 2: Select the correct trig ratio.
Step 3: State the formula.
Step 4: Substitute in our values.
Step 5: Isolate x by multiplying both sides by the denominator.
Step 6: Solve.

Q

How do you find the hypotenuse?

A

Step 1: Label the sides.
Step 2: Select the correct trig ratio.
Step 3: Divide the known length by the trig ratio and degree.
Step 4: That’s the answer to the hypotenuse.

Q

How do you find the angles of depression and elevation?

A

If you are looking up then the angle of elevation is between your line of eyesight and the horizontal line.

E.G: The angle between you looking up at an airplane and the horizontal eye sight which is what you see if you looked straight ahead.

If you are looking down then the angle of depression is between your line of eyesight and the horizontal line/eye sight.

E.G: The angle between you looking down at an object and the horizontal eye which is what you see if you looked straight ahead.

Q

How do you find angles with trig ratios?

A
Step 1: Label sides of the triangle.
Step 2: Select correct trig.
Step 3: State formula.
Step 4: Substitute in values.
Step 5: Separate the trig ratio from the theta by using trig ratio -1.
Step 6: Solve.

Note: For example, to find the angle using Tan it would.
7/12tan-1.
