A

Bowel lies outside abdominal wall through defect located to right of umbilicus

A

Liver and gut remain covered with membranous sac connected to umbilical cord.

-It is associated with Malrotation and CDH

Mortality >15%

What is the umbilical hernia?

A

-Up to 20% of neonates May have an umbilical hernia, it is more common in premature infants.

-Most of these hernias close spontaneously

-Surgery at age of 3 if not closed spontaneously

What is para-umbilical hernia?

A

-These are due to defects in the lines alba that are near the umbilicus.
-They are less likely to resolve spontaneously than an umbilical hernia

A

-Cherry red lesion, bleeds with contact and a site of seropurulent discharge
