unit 1 outcome 1- muscular system Flashcards

1
Q

types of muscle fibres

A

fusiform muscles- ( fibres run parallel to each other and run the length of the muscles. Less force development that pennate but… greater range of movement…. Bicep)

pennate- ( unipennate- one sole of the central tendon calf, bipennate- quad mulipennate- deltoid), the muscles form an angle with the tendon. More muscle fibres which can produce more tension and more force. Low velocity (doesn’t move fast, not much range of movement)

Q

what are the 2 muscle fibre types?

A
slow twitch ( aerobic, low force, power and speed and have high endurance)
fast twitch ( short duration high intensity , anaerobic )

Q

There are 3 types of muscle contractions:

A

Isotonic: the muscle length changes during contractions
Concentric: muscle shortens with tension (movement, bicep curl)
Eccentric: muscle lengthens with tension( curl down)

Isometric: the muscle length remains unchanged with tension ( gripping a racket,no movement, flex, push against wall)
3. Isokinetic: maximum tension throughout whole range of movement

Q

what are the 2 types of fiber arrangements?

A

Fusiform: ( fibres run parallel to each other and run the length of the muscles. Less force development that pennate but… greater range of movement…. Bicep)
Pennate: ( unipennate- calf, bipennate- quad mulipennate- deltoid), the muscles form an angle with the tendon. More muscle fibres which can produce more tension and more force. Low velocity (doesn’t move fast, not much range of movement)

Q

reciprocal inhibition

A

Muscles work in pairs so that when a muscle contracts to create a desired movement its partner must relax and stretch to allow the bones to move this is known as
