What is a factor?
A number being multiplied with another number to find a product.
What is a product?
The answer to a multiplication problem.
What is a quotient?
The answer to a division problem.
What is a remainder?
An amount left over when one number is divided by another.
What is an odd number?
A whole number that cannot be evenly divided by 2.
What does “divisible by” mean?
One whole number is “divisible by” another if there is no remainder.
What is a number model?
A number sentence that models or fits the situation.
What is a factor rainbow?
A way to show factor pairs in a list of all the factors of a number. A factor rainbow can be used to check whether a list of factors is correct.
What is a composite number?
A whole number that has more than two factors.
What is a prime number?
A whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two whole number factors–1 and itself.
What is a square number?
A number that is the product of a whole number times itself; a whole number to the second power. For example, 25 is a square number because 5 x 5 = 25. It can be represented by a square array.
What is a square root?
The square root of a number “n” is a number which, when multiplied by itself, results int he number “n”. For example, 4 is the square root of 16 because 4 x 4 = 16.
What is prime factorization?
A whole number expressed as a product of prime factors. For example, the prime factorization of 24 is 2 x 2 x 2 x 3.
