Two types of sin

A

Original sin= inherited from the actions of the first humans, Church teaches everyone is born with it and it’s washed away at Baptism

Personal sin= Actions that break God’s law, consequence of a person’s own actions

Why do Catholics believe salvation is important?

A
  • Without salvation there can be no real relationship with God
  • Without salvation a person’s sins will prevent them from entering Heaven
  • Salvation from sin was the whole purpose of Jesus coming to earth and founding Christianity

Types of Grace

A
  • Sacramnetal graces with come from the sacraments
  • Special garces (charisms), such as a gift of healing
  • The graces that come from special callings such as Priests

The church teaches that Christians are given different gifts of grace and should use them according to the grace given to them

A

Evangelical Protestants and some Catholics, agree that anyone who does not confess faith in Jesus cannot possibly be saved, but the Catholic Church teaches that no one but God knows who will and who will not be saved

  • The acts of the Apostles chapter 4 says that Peter preached that salvation comes through Jesus alone
  • The Catholic Catechism teaches that no one but God knows who will and who willnot be saved

  • The Churches teaching is that without salvation there can be no forgiveness of sins and so no entry to Heaven
  • St Peter said that salvation can only be found in Jesus and without Jesus there can be no salvation so no entry to Heaven
