Q

What are the layers of soil

A
O horizon
A horizon
E horizon
B horizon
C horizon
R horizon

O horizon is the top layer of organic soil
A horizon is the topsoil and ant roots
E sand minerals and clay
B horizon is subsoil contains clay minerals deposits
c horizon is regolith made of slightly broken up bedrock very little organic material
A horizon is the bed rock bottom layer

Q

What are the layers of the earth

A

Core made of nickel, solid and hotter than the surface of the sun
Outer core liquid core
Mantle rocky mantle made of somica (silicon, oxygen, magnesium, aluminum) it also contains a majority of the earths mass.

5
Q

What does divergence convergence and lateral slipping mean

A

Divergence the seafloor spreading and is the movements of to oceanic plates moving away from each other which results in new oceanic crust this is called a zone of divergence
Convergent plate movement is when two plates collide some crust is destroyed in the impact
Lateral slipping is when two plates move sideways against each other creating friction which makes earthquakes

Q

What happens when 2 of the same plates collide

A

Went to oceanic plates collide one is pushed under causing magnetize and the volcano to form
12 continental plates a mountain range is formed
When an oceanic and continental plates collide the oceanic is forced under the continental this is called subduction

12
Q

What are some characteristics of the tundra region

A

The tundra region has few stunted trees it is covered and permafrost that Sauza during summer it is very cold there is very little precipitation and there is very little hummus

13
Q

What are some characteristics of the boreal and taiga forest

A

Coniferous trees it is slightly warmer than the tundra region more precipitation in the tundra the hummus is very shallow and the topsoil is gray

15
Q

What are some characteristics of the deciduous forest

A

Deciduous trees long hot summer’s plentiful precipitation similar to makes forests some nutrients from topsoil

16
Q

What are some characteristics from the grasslands

A

Grasses and shrubs and tall grasses warm very little precipitation in the sod absorb some moisture and hold soil in place grasses die making lots of humus

17
Q

What are some characteristics about the cordilleran vegetation

A

It varies and may have coniferous or deciduous there’s a wide range of temperature as well as precipitation

18
Q

What are some characteristics about the West Coast florist

A

There are coniferous trees they have a maritime climate and the soil is a deep

19
Q

What is hummus

A

How much is the dark upper layer of soil made off of partially decayed plant material

20
Q

What is leaching

A

water moves down through soil and dissolves nutrients it is bad for plants because they need the nutrients poor thin topsoil

21
Q

What is Calcification

A

Occurs and dryer climate is the upward movement of water capillary action water from below is drawn up to replace lost at the top soil level as a water vibrates it leaves behind minerals creates a rich topsoil layer may be poisonous to some plants

22
Q

What is loam

A

Upfront tile soil of sand and clay containing hummus
