Q

Theories of Perception - Gibson

Johansson (1973)

A

The results showed participants could identify movements of actors if 12 light spots were moving rather than stationary.
This supports the idea that we use the optic flow to identify movement as - if the optic flow had no influence - all or none of the participants would be able to describe the movement

Q

Theories of Perception - Gibson

Rushton (1988)

A

The study was conducted to determine the importance of the optic flow on the position of an object. The results showed a correction in the misleading information.
This disproves the theory as it suggests there is an element of learning involved which ultimately shows we do not only use the optic flow
