Unit 3 Vocabulary Flashcards
A fraction that has a fraction in its numerator, denominator, or both
Complex Fraction
Constant value of the ratio of proportional quantities x and y. Written as y=kx, k is the constant of proportionality when a graph passes through the origin. Constant of proportionality can never be zero.
Constant of Proportionality
A fraction whose numerator and denominator represent the same quantity but use different units.
Conversion Factor
In a proportion the product of a numerator on one side with the denominator on the other.
Cross Products
Two fractions that have the same value but have different numerators and denominators; Equivalent fractions simplify to the same fraction.
Equivalent Fractions
A number expressed in the form a/b where a is a whole number and b is a positive whole number.
Fractions
Two numbers whose product is 1.
Multiplicative Inverse
A ratio comparing a number to 100
Percent
A rate of change expressed as a percent.
Percent Rate of Change
A equation stating that two ratios are equivalent.
Proportion
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units.
Rate
A comparison of two numbers using division. The ratio of a to b (where b doesn’t equal 0) can be written as a to b, as (a/b), or as a:b.
Ratio
Figures that have the same shape but the sizes are proportional.
Similar Figures
A drawing that uses a scale to make an object smaller than or larger than the real object.
Scale Drawing
The ratio between two sets of measurements.
