Individualism (A.V)
Places a value on self-reliance and independence.
Equality of Opportunity (A.V)
The belief that every American regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, etc deserves equal footing in life.
Free Enterprise
A value that has to do with the government’s intervention into economy. Most Americans subscribe to the Laissez Fair model. (Least bit of intervention as possible)
Rule of Law
They believe that every citizen is equal under the law, no one has special privileges.
Limited Government
A government whose limits are well-defined and is restrained through separation of powers and checks and balances
Conservative Ideology
Those who cherish established institutions and seek to preserve them for the good of society. They seek to conserve.
Liberals Ideology
They want the reins released and make everything more fair and just
Political Socialization
The process by which we form our political opinion
Mediums of Political socialization
Family, school, peers, media, civic/religious organizations, and globalization
Process of polls created with scientific rigor
- Writing bias-free question
- Presenting to a small group then generalizing to the public.
Opinion polls
Where pollsters get a feel for people’s opinions on topics or discerning people’s feelings about a candidate or policy.
Benchmark polls
Taken at the beginning of candidates run. It gives them a feel for their standing in popularity
Tracking polls
Conducted over time usually on the same group of people on how they feel about a given topic; this helps candidates shape their campaign promises
Entrance/ exit polls
Polls conducted at voting sights that ask people how they voted
