They feed on Cnidarians and keep the nematocysts for their own use by putting them in their tips of the cerata.

meaning of class names: Bi = two, Valva = door

Class members - mussels, oysters, clams, scallops

Characteristics - 2 shells, no radula, siphons for feeding.

They are found on soft to hard surfaces.
The bissus allows mussels to stick to hard surfaces. The byssal allows oysters to burrow and run away.

Scallops lie in the sand or mud and use jet propulsion.

Open circulatory system - heart pumps blood through open spaces called sinuses instead of blood vessels.

Nervous system of Bivalves are reduced because they have no head.

Cephalopods - very well developed. And have good vision, small ganglia near mouth, balance, simple chemical and touch receptors. Good dexterity and memory.
