Unit C Flashcards
How do you read a thermometer?
Look for the long lines, which indicate 1 °F (-17.22 °C) (or 1 °C) each and the smaller lines, which indicate 0.2 °F (-17.67 °C) (or 0.1 °C) each. And you read the nearest number to the end of the liquid, counting the small lines if you need to.
What is the transfer of heat between objects in contact?
Conduction
What is conduction?
Is the transfer of heat energy between substances are in contact with one another.
Which way does the heat transfer?
High Thermal Energy to Low Thermal Energy
What is convection current?
When these particles move in a circular motion, and when convection can result in heat loss.
Energy moving by infrared rays is called?
Infrared waves
Which materials absorb heat faster?
Stone, cast iron, and aluminum
Energy of movement is called?
Kinetic energy
Method of heat when liquid or gas particles move from one place to another?
Convection
What are the four theories in the Particle Model of Matter?
The particle model suggests that all substances are composed of particles, these particles are attracted to each other, these particles are kinetic and move around, and these particles move more when temperatures increase.
What is kinetic energy?
The energy of motion, observable as the movement of an object or subatomic particle.
What is Celsius?
A scale for measuring temperature, in which water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees.
What is thermal energy?
Total kinetic energy of all the particles, the substance contains
What are conductors?
A material that allows the transfer of heat.
Liquid changing to a solid is called?
Freezing
