Upper Limb Flashcards
Why arw the arms and legs similar
Have the same embryological origin
What connects the upper limb to the axial skeleton
Pectorl girdle
Regioins of the upper limb
Pectoral girdle
Arm (upper portion of the limb)
Forearm
Wrist & Hand
Bones of the pectoral girdle
Anterior: Clavicle
Posterior: scapula
Bones o arm
Humerus
Bones of foremarm
Ulnar and radius

Scapula anatomy
posterior divided by Spine of Scapula into
- supraspinous fossa
- infraspinous fossa
Anterior surface= Subscapular fossa
Muscles attaching to scapular lsurfaces
Infraspinatus, supraspinatus and subacapularis
What is the acromion
Process at the lateral end of scapular spine that articulates woth the Clavicle at the ACRIOCLAVICULAR joint
What is the Glenoid cavity
Artiuclates w/ head if Humerus at a ball and socket joint
-capsule is shallow and smaller than head allowing increased mobility but increased risk of dislocation
Supraglenoid tubercle- attachment of biceps longhead
Infraglendoid tubercle-attachment of triceps longhead
Borders of the scapular
Superior border with the SUPRASCAPULAR NOTCH
Medial border
Lateral border
Inferior angle
What runs through the suprascapular notch
Superior transverse scapular ligament
Clavicle
Easily fractured
S shape to absorb force and reduce fracture risk
Sternal end
- triangles/ sharper
- attaches to m manubrium
Acromial end
-attaches to acromion process of scapula
Superior surface is smooth
Inferior surface is rough cor attachment
