Vaccines Flashcards
6 Diseases Give Preformed Abs For (5 after exposure, 1 prophylactic, and which 2 give combined passive and active immunization after exposure)
After exposure: To Be Healed Very Rapidly: Tetanus toxin, Botulinum toxin, HBV, Varicella, Rabies virus
RSV in newborns during winter prophylactically
Combined passive and active for HBV and Rabies
Difference in Responses for Live Attenuated vs. Inactivated/Killed
Former generally stronger/lifelong whereas second weaker and needs boosters.
Cellular and humoral responses vs. just humoral
Thymus Dependent vs. Independent Ags
Independent lacks polypeptide sequence so can’t be presented on MHC and stim Ts/induce memory (like LPS), so killed viruses require thymus-dependent (does have polypep)
5 Live Attenuated Vaccines
MMR Polio (Sabin, oral) Influenza (intranasal) Varicella Yellow Fever
4 Inactivated/Killed Vaccines
RIP Always Rabies Influenza (injection) Polio (Salk, injected) HAV
2/3 Egg Based Vaccines
Flu and yellow fever so need skin test if have egg allergy. MMR has small component, but don’t need to worry about
Live Vaccines and HIV
Don’t give to IC patients or close contacts. Except MMR.
