expression
A mathematical sentence that contains operators, numbers and/or variables. No equal sign. They cannot be solved, but can be EVALUATED or SIMPLIFIED
equation
A mathematical sentence that contains operators, numbers, and/or variables along with an equal sign. They can be SOLVED by ISOLATING a VARIABLE using INVERSE operations.
variable
Any letter (or symbol) that represents a number
constant
A quantity (number) that does not change.
coefficient
A number being multiplied to a variable in an algebraic expression or equation
opperator
A symbol that indicates what mathematical operation to perform
exponent
a symbol written above and to the right of a mathematical expression to indicate the operation of raising to a power. Multiplying that number by its self
evaluate
To find the value of an expression by using the order of operations
solve
The process in which you isolate a variable by using inverse operations

To get a variable alone

Operations that “undo” each other…the math term for opposites
