preamble
We have a people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves, and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.
Legislative Branch
The legislative branch decides if the trade will go through and who it will go to. They can also ask other countries to trade. Congress - 100 senators, 435 Representatives. Writes bills and then vote on them to see if they become laws. They are the law making branch.
Judicial Branch
The Judicial branch decides if cases will go through or not. Also includes the Supreme Court. Decides if laws are constitutional or not. They decide if people are guilty or not.
Executive Branch
The head of this branch is the commander and chief of our armed forces. Includes the president, Vice President, and Cabinet. Can sign bills into law or veto them. They appoint the 9 Supreme Court justices.
Virginia Plan
Separation of powers Bicameral legislature based on population. The government had increased their powers.
New Jersey Plan
Unicameral legislature where every state received equal representation.
Popular Sovereignty
Popular Sovereignty is when the governments power resides in the people. It is government based on consent of the people.
Separation of government/ checks and balances
Separation of powers helps prevent one branch from becoming too powerful. It also checks the checks and balances. Separation of powers creates a system of checks and balances. It also is a doctrine of constitution law.
Regionalism/ Sectionalism
Regionalism is a partnership which is political parties, and foreign entanglements. It is also punishments.
John Adams
John Adams had served as vice president under George Washington, took office as president after winning.
Impressment
Impressment is when the British began overtaking United States ships and foreign men to fight on their behalf. This act of impressment angered the United States.
War Hawks
War Hawks are Americans that supported war . They also wanted war.
Tecumseh
Tecumseh had pushed for a strong Indian confederation that encouraged Native Americans to unite and fight Americans that were moving into their territory. Americans killed him. After the death of Tecumseh, American settlers no longer had a leader.
Embargo Act Of 1807
Limited all Us trade with foreign countries. It was made by president Thomas Jefferson. It ended, then president James Madison made the Non-Intercourse Act.
Battle of New Orleans
It is when the United States achieved its greatest land victory of the war of 1812 in New Orleans. The war was fought to get New Orleans, so that they can expand their territory.
