Waves Flashcards

1
Q

Transverse wave

A

The particles in the wave vibrates perpendicular to direction of the propagation. Light nipples formed on the surface of the water in the nipple tank.

A

The particles vibrates parallel to direction of propagation. eg sound wave

Q

Feature of wave

A

Amplitude waves- the max displacement from the equilibrium positions

Wave length - distance between 2 successive crust or troughs corresponding point of wave.

Period times t/s - is the time taken for 1 complete oscillations

Frequency h/hz- the number of complete oscillations per seconds

Q

Principle of superposition

A

Constructive inference- occurs when 2 wavefront meet in a place 2 crust or toughs arrive at or point at the same time. Resultant is the sum of the individual amplitude. Theses interferes constructively.

Wave1 & 2 are completely in phrase
Wave 3 amplitude double as well as frequency increase.

Q

Destructive inference

A

Occurs when a the wave 1/2 out of phase rust or toughs cancel each other. Inference destructively

Wave 1 & 2 are of of phase
