Waves Flashcards
What is the Conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be destroyed or created only converted into other forms of energy.
E.g
Light Bulbs > electrical > light + heat
What is a conductor?
Something that conducts heat.
What is an insulator?
Something that insulates heat.
What are convection currents?
The movement of hot and cold liquids and gases.
Radiation
Is the transfer of heat directly from the source to the object by a wave, travelling as Rays. Heat radiation is also known as Infra-Red radiation.
What is sound energy?
Sound is a form of energy caused by vibration. The energy created travels as a compression.
Waves
Waves transmit energy from one place to another.
Longitudinal wave
Longitudinal (compression wave)
E.g
Sound waves
THEY ARE EITHER DOT OR LINED DIAGRAMS NOT WAVEY ONES
Transverse waves
Transverse waves
E.g
Water and light waves
NOT DOT OR LINED THEY ARE WAVEY ONES
Name five types of energy
Kinetic-movement Chemical-battery Heat-sun Gravitational potential Light Electrical
Frequency
Frequency is the number of times wave vibrates per second.
What is frequency measured in?
Hertz (Hz)
High pitched wave
Short wave length and high frequency
Wave Equation
Speed if any wave can be calculated by:
V= f /| /| = V \_\_\_ f f = V \_\_\_ /|
V=velocity (speed) of wave (m/sec)
f=frequency (Hz)
/|=wave length (m)
Wave Equation
Frequency (Hz) = S waves
