Weather 🌤 Flashcards
What is albedo?
The proportion of incident light or radiation reflected or absorbed.
What is conduction?
When thermal energy transfers between two objects that are in direct contact.
What is convection?
Thermal energy transfer by the movement of a heated material from one place to another.
What is radiation?
Thermal energy that moves in a material to heat it.
What is humidity?
The amount of water vapour in the air.
What is the atmosphere?
The envelope of gases surrounding the earth.
What is the hydrosphere?
All the water on the Earths surface.
What is the lithosphere?
All the land on the Earths surface.
What is the biosphere?
The atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere together.
What is a heat sink.
Any substance that can absorb and retain energy with out changing state.
What is a greenhouse gas?
Any gas in the atmosphere that absorbs infrared radiation.
Where do greenhouse gases come from?
The come from methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, produced from factory emissions and agricultural waste.
What are greenhouse gases doing to add to global warming?
The greenhouse gases are letting all the heat from the day in and not letting it out at night and the Earth is slowly heating up.
What are the layers of the atmosphere?
- exosphere
- thermosphere
- mesosphere
- stratosphere
- troposphere
