Weather - Natural Hazards Flashcards
Which factors affect a place’s climate?
Latitude- the distance to the equator
Convection current- warm air rises because it is less dense than cooler air
Air pressure- this creates wind
What is convection current?
Warm air rises this is because it is less dense than cooler air. Cool air sinks this is because it is more dense than warmer air.
What is air pressure?
Air particles move from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure, this is what causes wind
What is mitigation?
Alternative energy production, carbon capture, planting trees, intern agreements
What is adaptation?
Change in agricultural systems, managing water supply, reducing risk from rising sea levels
What are examples of natural factors of climate change?
Orbital changes, volcanic activity and solar output
What are examples of human factors of climate change?
Use of fossil fuels, agriculture, deforestation
How does deforestation cause climate change?
Logging and clearing land for agricultural/roads increase the amount of C02 in the atmosphere, as less photosynthesis occurs
How does agriculture cause climate change?
This accounts for 20% of greenhouse gases. Lager populations and demands for meat and rice will increase its contribution
How does use of fossil fuels affect climate change?
Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide. This accounts for 50% of greenhouse gases
