what do christians believe about sin?
sin is an action that goes against Gods will and separates humans from God and as long as there is sin,it prevents humans from restoring their relationship with God:Sin gets in the way and needs to be removed.
what evidence is there in the bible that sin separates humans from God
When Adam and Eve(humanity) disobeyed God’s will and acted out of selfish desire(original sin) which showed their lack of respect and love for God which damaged their relationship with God
how does the crucifixion repair the relationship between humans and God?
the crucifixion atones for human sin.It removes the sin which prevents humans from restoring their relationship with God which is one if the purposes in life for christians
what is the ransom theory of atonement?
when humans first sinned,we became captive to sin and became influenced by it which prevented us from having a relationship with God.Jesus offered his life as ransom to release humans from sin.Once free, humans can restore their relationship with God
what is the substitution theory of atonement?
humanitys sins breaks Gods will and it offends God.God is fair and just so he needs a punishment for our offence or Gods justice would mean very little. However, rather than punishing humans,God takes the punishment himself out if love.Jesus acts as a substitute and takes the punishment of all humans and his death pays the penalty for our sins. His innocence is offered in place of human sin.Jesus’ death satisfies Gods justice.
what is the moral example theory of atonement?
God became human to show humanity the right path. The life and teaching of Jesus exemplified how God wants humans to live. Some liked Jesus’ message ,others didn’t which led to his death.God was willing to make this sacrifice to show humanity the right path which demonstrates his love for humanity which is intended to move humanity to repent and reunite with God.
how does the crucifixion demonstrate Gods omnibenevolence and how he understands suffering?[3]
1.God is fair and just and his justice required humans sins to be punished. However,God decided to tale the punishment himself out of love.Jesus is punished instead, paying the price for their sin.Jesus acted as a substitute
2.allowed christians to repair their relationship with God and therefore fulfil one of their purposes in life which was to live a life in union with God
3.the crucifixion shows that God understands suffering as he took the human form and experienced pain.It can help people who are suffering find purpose in their suffering and shows that god shares their suffering
how does the crucifixion fulfil isaiahs prophecy and Gods promise to restore his relationship with his creation?
Isaiah prophesied that God would send a messiah whose suffering would pay the price for human sin 700 years before Jesus.Christians believe Jesus fulfils the prophecy.Isaiah prophesied that the messiah would be ”pierced for our transgressions” which is shown when Jesus’ feet and wrists were nailed to the cross
