Mesoclimate
Mesocliamte refers to climatic differences in an encompassing region such as distance to a river or the location of a vineyard on an elevated slope. The influence of mesoclimates is partly why NAPA Valley has been divided into 16 different sub-AVAs
Vines requires these four elements to grow
Water
Nutrients
Sunlight
Warmth
The four elements to grow are influenced by
- Orientation (face the Equator)
- Latitude
- Slope Angle (affects sun exposure and drainage)
- Proximity to Water (Cooling the area)
- Type of soils (Dark soils store warmth) (Light colour soils reflect sunlight)
Terroir
Can be defined as an ecosystem in given place, including any factors like, climatic conditions, cultivar, rootstock, geography, and topography, as well as soil characteristics like mineral nutrition and water supply
(Terroir is a special character that a vine gets from its place of production)
