  • can follow mom and dad, tracking- by 3 to 4 months, children can fixate on one visual field simultaneously
  • vision testing recommended for all kids 3 – 5

  • first tooth comes in at around 6 mos
  • first dentist visit at 6 mos
  • Color and hygiene of teeth can indicate malnourishment, acid reflux, lack of fluoride in diet
  • baby bottle tooth decay- caries
  • < 3 y/o smear or rice sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste
  • 3 to 6 y/o pea sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste
  • ***formula does contain fluoride

A

-infants need head control to start new foods
-allergies- rice cereal is least problematic
-comparison to growth chart
-Birth weight!!!
Needs change based on age

Newborns should regain their birthweight by 2 weeks old

  • solids at 6 months
  • cows milk at ONE YEAR
  • rice cereal at about 4 months, mixed with formula
