Piso/suelo

Suelo = ground
Different Spanish speaking areas have their own preferences.
In Spain piso mostly means apartment, the floor of a building, with some areas and people referring still to the surface you step on. Suelo being whatever you step on and the ground, including land (ley del suelo, propiedad del suelo).
In areas of the Americas is mixed, in some using piso for virtually every surface you are stepping on.
