Type and site
Small parasympathetic ganglion in infratemporal fossa just below foramen ovale
Suspended by nerve to medial pterygoid nerve from mandibular nerve
Roots and branches
Motor root
Sympathetic root
Para sympathetic root
Motor root
Two fibers from medial pterygoid nerve that traverse ganglia without relay
Supplying tensor palati and tensor tympani
Sympathetic root
Sympathetic plexus around middle meningeal artery
That traverse without relay in the ganglia and it joins Auriculotemporal nerve to supply parotid gland
Parasympathetic root
Lesser superficial petrosal nerve
From tympanic plexus from glossopjaryngeal nerve
Leaves skull through foramen ovale to realy in ganglion
Postganglionic fibers join Auriculotemporal nerve to supply parotid gland
