Q

What is skin voltage breakdown?

A

Skin breaks down around 600 volts. The outer most “horny layer” of skin made up of protein “keratin” provides the largest % of the body’s resistance

17
Q

What is body resistance?

A

The skin has the highest resistance. Hand to hand is about 1000 ohms.
Dry thick skin will have a higher resistance than wet or thinner/ damaged skin. If the skin is punctured the current can flow with very little resistance through the body

Q

When do you need rubber sleeves?

A

Sleeves should be worn any time gloves are needed. to protect from accidental contact only
OSHA states Not needed if exposed energized parts on which work is being performed are insulated from employee and if such insulation is placed from a position not exposing employees upper arm to contact with other energized parts

28
Q

What is the purpose of line hose (rubber guts)?

A

To cover up conductors to prevent accidental contact

29
Q

What is the allowed oxygen levels?

A

19.5 % to 23.5 %

30
Q

Who is in charge and has the responsibility of the confined space?

A

Entry supervisor

31
Q

At what depth do you need a retrieval device?

A

5ft

32
Q

Why do we conduct pre-job briefing/ tailboards?

A

To go over the scope of the job and what is expected. To identify possible hazards and how to mitigate them. To know and understand the safety steps and ppe needed to complete the job

33
Q

What does a crew need to be safe and productive?

A

Proper training
Know the plan
Have the proper ppe
Only when a crew is fully informed and working in harmony, is it the safest and most productive

34
Q

Who should participate in safety meeting/ tailboards?

A

Everyone

35
Q

What is the greatest infection risk of blood borne pathogens?

A

Hepatitis B

36
Q

When would you need first aid PPE?

A

Any time there is exposure to bodily fluids

37
Q

How many people can give hand signals to the operator?

A

One designated person

38
Q

Air hose safety

A

Always release pressure in air hose before disconnecting
Always secure connections using hitch, cotter pin, or flexible cable with spring loaded loop at each end
Inspect prior to use

39
Q

What determines the size of a generator?

A

The watts it produces
You have to take into consideration the amount of start up power the load requires

40
Q

Backup generator safety (back feed)

A

Never connect directly to household wiring. It will bypass any electrical safety devices and back feed to the power grid causing safety concerns to utility workers working on the power lines many miles away
The only safe way to connect a generator is with a properly rated transfer switch

41
Q

How can back feed occur when using a generator to restore power?

A

The flow of power is reversed and when it gets to the transformer it steps up to primary voltage onto the lines

42
Q

How is the class of pole determined?

A

Top circumference and circumference 6ft from the butt

43
Q

How to test for butt rot?

A

Drill or core at base of pole to determine shell thickness and inner rot
Dig down 18” to look for surface rot

44
Q

What is the most destructive to wood poles?

A

Decay fungi

45
Q

Where do you face the brand on an angle?

A

Away from the angle or towards the anchor

46
Q

How should brands face in a pole line?

A

Face to face back to back
Usually with the last 2 or 3 poles facing the deadend

47
Q

What is the most common type of pole guy?

A

Down guy

48
Q

How do you determine the correct hole location?

A

Where the stake is placed by the staker based on the engineer

49
Q

How big around should the pole hole be?

A

The diameter of the butt of the pole plus 3” all around the hole

50
Q

How deep should the pole hole be?

A

10% plus 2ft of the pole length

51
Q
