What is the airway manoeuvre of choice when cervical spine trauma is not suspected?
Head tilt and chin lift
How is head lift and chin tilt performed?
Patient placed on their back
Rescuer lifts the patient’s chin whilst extending patient’s head
What does the head lift and chin tilt manoeuvre accomplish?
Lifts the collapsed soft tissues and restores airway patency
What should be done once the head lift and chin tilt is performed?
Reassess the airway by looking for chest movement and feeling for a patient’s breath on their cheel
What should you do if (post-head lift and chin tilt) a) airway is patent and patient is breathing spontaneously, b) patient is not breathing?
a) place patient in recovery position
b) commence basic life support measures
