Q

what would happen without biosecurity?

A
  • Financial and commercial losses
  • health implications for animals
  • health implications for clients/staff (zoonotic disease)

what is a biofilm?

A

a slime layer attached to a surface, made up of a community of microorganisms

13
Q

how do biofilms form?

A
  • attachment of microorganisms to a surface e.g plaque
  • colonisation with the formation of multi-celled layers
  • exopolymer production- form a matrix of columns which maximise nutrient delivery and waste removal
  • dispersal, part of biofilm detaches and releases bacteria to start new biofilm
