1 CVS DR room/Heart anatomy Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is the Pericardium?
The fibroserous sac that covers the heart and roots of the greater vessels
What are the three layers of the pericardium?
Fibrous layer
Parietal layer
Visceral layer
What is the pericardium attached too?
The sternum and the right and left pleurae
What is the function of the pericardial fluid?
Allows Serous membranes to slide over one another when the heart beats
What is cardiac tamponade?
it is when the fluid in the pericardium builds up and results in compression of the heart. Onset may be rapid or gradual.
What is Pericardiocentesis?
A procedure used to remove the pericardial fluid from the pericardial cavity
What nerve innervates the pericardium?
Phrenic nerve
What are the two pericardial sinuses? and can you identify them?
The transverse pericardial sinus
The oblique pericardial sinus
Where does the Vena Cava blood flow into?
Right atrium
Where does the right ventricle flow into?
Pulmonary Artery
Where does the Pulmonary veins flow into?
Left Atrium
Where does the blood from the left ventricle flow into?
Aortic Branch
Label the RCA, RMA LCA and LADA
Right coronary artery
Right marginal artery
Left circumflex artery
Left anterior descending artery
Which coronary artery is commonly called the widowmaker?
LAD
What is the name of major vein on the posterior surface of the heart?
Coronary sinus
Describe the apex of the heart?
The apex is the tip at the bottom of the left ventricle, points inferiorly, anteriorly and to the left
Describe the base of the heart?
The base of the heart is formed by the atria, (mainly the left atria) and lies between the lung hila
Describe the anterior surface of the heart?
The anterior surface of the heart is shaped by the right atrium and ventricle
What are the basic rules of normal cardiac anatomy?
- Right-sided structures lie mostly anterior to their left-sided counterparts
- Atrial chambers are located mostly to the right of their corresponding ventricles
