1: Microneurosurgery Of Brain Tumors Flashcards

1
Q

A

abnormal mass of tissue -> cells grow/multiply uncontrollably

  • primary (glial/non-glial) (benign/malignant)

Q

Current challenges:

A

Anatomy
• Macro: limited resolution of in vivo-anatomy
• Micro: not available in-vivo in human

Connectivity
• Macro: not sufficiently reliable in-vivo
• Micro: non available in-vivo

Function
• Lesional: in human only “observational”, non reproducible, non available surgical model
• Stimulation: limited spectrum, reliable model?

Q

2 schools

A
  • REMOVE ONLY THE TUMOR (dont know what function there is, cisternal navigation)
  • IF THERE IS NO FUNCTION, TAKE IT OUT (offene OP, wenn sich nichts ändert weiter vordringen)

Advanced Preoperative Imaging

A

• Microscopy & Microneurosurgery
• Cisternal navigation (durch Gänge die es schon hat)
• Endoscopy
• Neuronavigation
• Intraoperative Ultrasound -> realtime visualizatio
• Intraoperative MRI
• Intraoperative Neurophysiology (Neurostimulation)
