1: Motion - YK Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is the equation for speed and average speed?
speed = distance / time (s=d/t)
average speed = total distance / total time
What is the equation for acceleration?
acceleration = change in velocity / time (a=(v-u)/t)
What does a flat line, straight line, and curved line mean on a distance-time graph?
Flat: object at rest
Straight: object moving at constant speed
Curved: object accelerating
What does a flat line, straight line, and curved line mean on a velocity-time graph?
Flat: constant speed
Straight: constant acceleration (+ve or -ve)
Curved: object accelerating at different rates
What is a scalar and vector?
A scalar is a quantity with size only (e.g. distance), a vector has direction and size (e.g. displacement).
Corresponding scalars and vectors are quantities with the same unit of measurement.
What is the equation linking final velocity, initial velocity, acceleration and displacement?
v^2 = u^2 + 2ax (v-final velocity, u-initial velocity, a-acceleration, x-displacement)
What is the equation linking final velocity, initial velocity, time and displacement?
x = 1/2(u+v)t (v-final velocity, u-initial velocity, t-time, x-displacement)
