10 - Approach Procedures Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are the five segments of the flight phase between leaving the ATS route structure and the landing?
- The arrival segment
- The initial approach segment
- The intermediate segment
- The final approach segment
- The missed approach segment
What are STARS?
Standard arrival routes that cover the arrival segment and connect the ATS routes to the initial approach segment.
For a facility providing track guidance, what is the NDB / VOR / ILS system accuracy?
NDB: +/- 6.9°
VOR: +/- 5.2°
ILS: +/- 2.4°
For a facility not providing track guidance, what is the NDB / VOR / ILS system accuracy?
NDB: +/- 6.2° (-0.7)
VOR: +/- 4.5° (-0.7)
ILS: +/- 1.4° (-1)
Why is speed the most significant factor affecting the size of the protected area?
Because speed directly affects turn radius.
What are the 5 aircraft categories (based on their threshold speed)
A < 90
90 < B <120 (+30)
120 < C < 140 (+20)
140 < D < 165 (+15)
165 < E < 210 (+45)
H: Helicopters
What is the MSA (Minimum Sector Altitude)
It is the lowest altitude you can fly to guarantee the MOC (Minimum Obstacle Clearance) of 300 meters within a radius of 25 NM of the aerodrome’s homing facility.
