Purpose
Mission or the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
Principles
Concept or the idea that guides you
DHCP
(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
Protocol used to automatically assign IP addressing information to hosts that have not been configured manually.
IP Addresses
Format for logical host and network addressing.
Pv4, 32-bit binary address is expressed in dotted decimal notation (example: 192.168.1.1).
IPv6, 128-bit expressed as hexadecimal
(example: 2001:db8::0bcd:abcd:ef12:1234).
Malware
Malicious software installed typically without the user’s consent (or knowledge).
Computing Cycle
The sequence of actions that a device goes through to process instructions and perform tasks. The four main steps of the computing cycle are input, process, storage, and output.
central processing unit (CPU)
Principal microprocessor responsible for running firmware, operating system, and applications software.
system memory
Volatile storage devices that hold computer data and program instructions while the computer is turned on.
hard drive
Persistent (long-term storage) or mass storage
input
Data entered into the system through
keyboards, touching screens, microphone, camera, gestures and scanners.
process
Operations performed on the input data by the CPU.
storage
Processed data temporarily stored in RAM (Random Access Memory) or saved permanently on a hard drive for future use.
output
Processed information displayed to the user through devices like monitors, printers, or speakers.
random access memory (RAM)
Volatile storage devices that hold computer data and program instructions while the computer is turned on.
volatile
it changes easily, it’s not stable
operating system
Main software that runs the computer
solid state drives (SSD)
Persistent mass-storage device using flash memory.
flash memory
USB thumb drives and memory cards for removable storage and Solid State Drives (SSDs), designed to replicate the function of hard drives.
form factors
Size and shape of a component, determining its compatibility. Form factor is most closely associated with PC motherboard, case, and power supply designs.
optical drives
Mass storage device that supports CD, DVD, and/or Blu-ray media.
read only memory (ROM)
A ROM chip is a special form of memory that has data written to it during the manufacturing process and thus is not amenable to alteration.
information technology (IT)
The use of computers and related devices to manage data.
peripherals
External devices connected to a computer providing communication, such as input and output and additional storage.
