Q

when does speciation occur

Q

what happens in allopatric speciation?

A
  • requires geographical isolation
    1. physical barrier
    2. populations adapt to the new environments
Allele frequency changes = difference in genepools = changes in phenotype frequencies
    3. they become reproductively isolated = developed a new species

Q

What type of changes occur during reproductive isolation?`

A

seasonal - changes in flowering/mating
Mechanical - changes in genitalia prevent successful mating
behavioural - a group of individuals develop courtship rituals that aren’t attractive to the main population
